Chocolate & Hazelnut Tray bake with a Nutella cream cheese frosting

I have been playing in the kitchen and was craving chocolate I’m not sure why but wanted something yummy moist and that would give me great satisfaction whilst eating it.

I love Nutella and hazelnuts so thought why not put them in a tray bake so here it is.

This is the chocolate tray bake i always do I have tweaked it a little from Mary berry’s recipe

50g cocoa powder

6 tbsp boiling water

100g stork baking butter

275g caster sugar

3 large eggs

125ml Hazelnut milk

175g self raising flour

1 tsp baking powder

100g chopped hazelnuts along with a few extra for decoration

For the frostingย 

180g cream cheese

50g icing sugar

100g unsalted butter

2 tbsp nutella

Begin by preheating the oven to 170’c and greasing and lining a 12 x 9 inch tin

Place the cocoa powder into a baking bowl along with the boiling water mix till you have a nice thick paste then add the rest of your ingredients leaving the chopped hazelnuts till last give it a good mix till you have a lovely smooth batter mixture now add your hazelnuts and mix through. Pour into your prepared tin and level out.

Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins depending on your oven I always do mine for 30 mins then add more time if it needs it. Once its ready place on a cooling rack to cool and make you’re frosting.

Put all the ingredients for the frosting into a bowl then using a hand held or a stand alone mixer mix altogether till you have a silky icing. once your cake has cooled and got cold decorate your cake with the frosting and place some hazelnuts along the top (optional)
